Vernon Liddell Dean, a gentle soul whose kindness touched the hearts of all who knew him, passed away peacefully, Monday, May 18, 2026, in Fort Worth. Born on September 1, 1936, in Lawton, Oklahoma, Vernon lived a life marked by quiet strength, dedication, and a deep love for family and community.
A proud member of the Chickasaw Nation, Vernon's heritage was a cornerstone of his identity, guiding him through every chapter of his life. He graduated from Gladewater High School in 1955, where he was the esteemed quarterback of the football team—a role that showcased his natural leadership and tenacity. Following his high school years, Vernon answered the call of duty and served honorably in the Army, embodying the same steadfast commitment he showed in all endeavors.
Professionally, Vernon devoted many years to commercial construction, where his hard work and reliability earned the respect of his colleagues. Beyond his career, he found joy in the simple pleasures of golf and boxing, sports that reflected his spirited nature and love for a good challenge.
Perhaps Vernon's proudest personal accomplishment was marrying Grace Jenell Dean in 1961, a union that brought great happiness and was the foundation of their family. Though Grace and their daughter, Maria Ann Dean, have passed before him, Vernon is survived by his daughter Ladonna Dixon, his sister Linda Briggs, and numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
Throughout his life, Vernon was known not only for what he did but for who he was: kind, gentle, and beloved by all who crossed his path. The warmth and sincerity he carried will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived and a spirit deeply cherished.
As we remember Vernon Dean, we celebrate a man who carried with him the strength of his ancestors and the love of his family until the very end. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and love shines brightly, inspiring all who had the privilege to know him.
