David L. Stewart
 April 1, 1960 - July 4, 2023
David L. Stewart had a catastrophic stroke on June 30, 2023, was flown to Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, and officially passed on July 4, 2023, at the age of 63.

David was born in Lubbock, Texas, and raised in Boyd, Texas.  He attended Texas Tech in Lubbock.

David dedicated his life to radio broadcasting, getting his first broadcasters license at the age of 15.  When he got his driver’s license, he worked as on-air talent at a non-profit radio station in Dallas.  He went directly from his all-night shifts to class the next morning, throughout his high school years. He continued on-air work at the campus radio station in college and handled engineering for KTXT-TV.
He served as engineer for Tichenor Media Systems for 12 years.  He was VP of engineering for Univision for 13 years.  David was a partner in the management group that owns KWFB “BOB FM” Wichita Falls and also owned Moving Target Consulting.

In 2019 he was the recipient of the George Marti Award for Engineering Excellence.

He spent the last years in Lamesa, Texas, working tirelessly in his role of owner and operator of KPET, trying to keep the station alive.

David was preceded in death by his father, Richard Stewart, and his brother, Sam Stewart.  He is survived by his mother, Janice Stewart, sister Susan R. Stewart, her husband Michael Hiett, and his niece Susan E. Stewart.  He will be greatly missed by his dear friends Kyle Wesley, Susan Brandt, Rose Tavizon and her son Hondo Tavizon, Ken and Susan Fine, Paul and Anita Easter, and a wide network of  loving friends and colleagues.

Those lucky enough to receive long phone calls from the road from David will sorely miss those check-ins.  He was known for his extensive knowledge of all things radio, encyclopedic recollection of dialogue from episodes of Star Trek and The Simpsons, his tender heart, and wicked sense of humor.  David gave of himself until the end, as he wished to be an organ donor.

He will be honored at the upcoming Texas Broadcasting Convention.
