Stephen “Scott” Thornton, 63, passed away, Wednesday, October 1, 2025 in Burleson. He was born on June 19, 1962, in Lubbock, Texas. He was predeceased by his father, James Milton Thornton.
Scott grew up in Denver City, where he graduated from Denver City High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a Tech Sergeant. Following his military service, Scott pursued a career as a shooting proficiency instructor, sharing his expertise and teaching many of his family members the art of shooting.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Scott had a wealth of passions, including singing, salsa and ballroom dancing. He was an active member of the Society of Ordinary Gentlemen, embodying the spirit of camaraderie and mentorship he offered to those around him. Known for his approachable nature, Scott never met a stranger and was always recognized for his infectious smile.
Scott cherished familial bonds and loved participating in family events and outdoor activities. He is survived by his sons, Stephen D. Thornton and Timothy S. Thornton and wife, Anna Marie; mother, Margaret Thornton; sister, Rhonda “Roni” Thornton; brother, Darrell Thornton, and wife, LeeAnne; as well as his grandchildren, Lucia Thornton, Joan Thornton, Nicholas Thornton, and one expected grandchild.
Scott's legacy of mentorship, dedication, and kindness will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
