Jack Gordon Smith, 96, went to be with the Lord, Monday, April 17, 2023. He was born January 9, 1927 to Mallie and Nellie (Gregg) Smith in Decatur. Jack worked for Swifts. He serviced in the U.S. Army and was one of the few WWII veterans remaining in Wise County. His basic training in Killeen ended the day WWII ended. He served as a PFC and MP in Manila then was transferred to the Army Air Force in Hawaii where he was a Corporal. Jack returned to Swifts, then worked for General motors in Arlington where he retired. He married Sue Jones on May 12, 1956. They had two children together. He was member of Greenwood Baptist Church in Greenwood, Texas and later attended First Baptist Church, Decatur. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Wilma (Smith) Sanders and her husband, Homer; Sue Smith Harris; son, John Michael "Mike" Smith. Jack is survived by his son, Mark Smith and wife, Joyce of Alvord; daughter, Myra Luttrell and husband, Jim of Decatur; grandchildren, Jodi (Cody) Burkhart of Decatur, Jacob Luttrell of Horseshoe Bay, Jennifer (Mary) Smith of Arlington and Matthew (Kim) Smith of Alvord; Great Grandchildren, Zoey Burkhart, Amelia Smith, Watson Smith; nephews, Robert Sanders of Brenham and Jim Sanders of Columbia, South Carolina; and extended family and friends. All of whom will miss him dearly.
