Shirley Jean Cassity, a vibrant and feisty lady known for her kind and loving heart, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, in her hometown of Decatur, Texas. Born on September 17, 1938, Shirley's life was marked by warmth, dedication, and an enduring spirit that touched everyone around her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Cassity, daughter Ann, and her parents.
For over a decade, Shirley owned and operated the Eagle Cafe in Decatur, where her welcoming smile and steadfast work ethic made the cafe a beloved local gathering place. Following that, she served for 15 years as the cafeteria manager for the Decatur Independent School District, ensuring that countless children received nourishing meals and a sense of care each day. Beyond her professional endeavors, Shirley’s pride in raising a loving family was among her most cherished accomplishments.
A passionate volunteer, Shirley generously gave her time to the Wise County Hospital, exemplifying her commitment to community and service. She treasured her membership in the Red Hat Club, where camaraderie and laughter-filled gatherings brought her joy. Gardening filled her days with peace and creativity, while playing cards, shopping, and traveling added to her vibrant lifestyle.
Shirley’s life was deeply enriched by her family, who were the heart of all she did. She was married to her beloved husband, Don Cassity, for 56 wonderful years—a union built on love, support, and shared memories. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Lynch and her husband Buster, and Delinda Cassity; her loving son, Robert Cassity; as well as her cherished grandchildren, Todd Lynch and his wife Cristina, Brad Cooper and his wife Kaitlin, Amy Blaha and her husband Chris, Dusty Cooper and his wife Stephanie. Twelve great-grandchildren, along with extended family and friends, also carry forward her legacy of love and kindness.
Shirley Jean Cassity’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with strength, compassion, and joy. She faced life’s challenges with grace and humor, earning admiration and affection from all who knew her. While her presence will be deeply missed, the memories she leaves behind will continue to inspire warmth and love in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
