DECATUR -- Magdalen Uptmore Shelton, 93, a retired homemaker, went to be with our Lord Tuesday, July 12, 2016, in Decatur.
Madge was born on November 26, 1922 in the farming community of Tours near Waco to Thomas and Lena Uptmore. Her grandparents had come from Germany in the 1880's. As a young lady, she worked as a seamstress during World War II. She followed her love for clothes and fashion the rest of her life.
Magdalen married Robert Godfrey Shelton November 16, 1942 in Waco. They lived in Waco, Kansas City, Mo and Fort Worth. She lived in Fort Worth from 1951-2005 and was a member at Wesley Methodist Church. After raising her children, she worked for over 30 years in retail as a clothes seamstress and loved her job and customers.
She moved to Governor's Ridge Assisted Living in Decatur in 2005.
Magdalen was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Shelton; brother, Tommy Uptmore; sisters Betty Yoli, Delores Bair, Son, Tommy Shelton and Daughter, Sharon Watkins.
Survivors: Sister, Evelyn Varner of Austin; son, Gary Shelton and wife, Margie of Decatur; grandchildren, Jeremy Shelton and wife Hayley of Decatur; Suzanne Shelton of Denton; James Watkins and wife Amber of Camden Arkansas; great grandchildren: Blakely Shelton of Decatur; Kacie and Danica Watkins of Camden, Arkansas.
