Richard Carroll Slonaker, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, departed this world on May 6, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on February 28, 1944, in Alliance, Ohio to Herman Harry Slonaker and Alfreda Lenore (Mason) Slonaker. Richard's journey began in a small town where he was raised with love and rooted in family values.
Richard's life was marked by his boundless kindness and compassionate spirit. Throughout his years, he embodied the essence of a giving heart, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His warm demeanor and genuine concern for others created lasting bonds and warmed the hearts of everyone he met.
In 1970, Richard married the love of his life, Wilma Lee (Quigley) Slonaker. Their union flourished for 55 beautiful years, a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Together, they raised their family in West Virginia, nurturing an environment filled with love, laughter, and precious memories. Later, they made new memories as they embraced life in Texas.
Richard's military service during the Vietnam War and subsequent years in the National Guard showcased his dedication to his country. His commitment to service extended beyond the battlefield, as he exemplified loyalty and love for his family throughout his life.
In his spare time, Richard found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was passionate about fishing, spending countless hours casting lines into tranquil waters. His garden, a beautiful reflection of his nurturing spirit, flourished under his care, much like his family. He delighted in driving his tractor, raising chickens, and embarking on road trips that brought the family closer together. Each moment spent with loved ones was cherished, with laughter and stories shared around the dinner table.
Richard leaves behind his beloved wife, Wilma; children Christina Marie Cisneros and husband, Pablo, Richard Carroll Slonaker Jr., and Michele Lynn Price. He is also survived by his brother Roger Slonaker and wife, April. The light of his life continues to shine through his grandchildren, Ashley, Aimee, Carroll, Ryan, Dylan, Peytan, and Trystan, along with his great-grandchildren Lilly, Jason, Alice, and Emma. He is remembered fondly by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family, all of whom were touched by his gentle spirit and loving nature.
Though he is preceded in death by his parents, Richard's legacy of kindness and compassion will forever resonate in the hearts of those he leaves behind. As we gather to remember his life, let us celebrate the love, laughter, and warmth he brought to our lives and hold dear the memories of a remarkable man who truly made a difference in the world.
