Listen to Obituary

Richard George Steinfels went home to be with the Lord Saturday, June 28, 2025.

Richard was born in East Orange, New Jersey Dec. 19, 1944. He attended both elementary and high school in East Orange, New Jersey. He was one of five siblings born to Victor Edwin Steinfels Jr and his wife, Lilleas Steinfels.

Richard joined the Navy but was medically discharged in 1963 due to an injury.

Richard loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to hunt with his three brothers and spend time with them on the hunt. He solo hunted in Colorado and Wyoming, but with family hunted small game in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York. He fished both in lakes and the ocean. He won many awards for it. His largest fish was caught in competitive events.

He and his brother Wayne were competitive shuffleboard players and won many events.

Richard drove a truck in all 48 states and over the road, receiving five Best Driver of the Year awards for his skill in driving. He had to retire from driving in 2003 because of cancer in the lung, but before he retired he accumulated a milestone of more than one million miles without a ticket or accident.

We know Richard is free from suffering and we feel comfortable knowing he is now with Heavenly Father Jesus and with his mother, father and sister.

We will miss Richard and give thanks to God the Father for the 80-plus years we had him with us. We love you Richard and say “Rest in peace in the arms of Heavenly Father, God and his son Jesus Christ.”

He leaves behind three brothers, Victor Steinfels III of Ohio, Ronald Steinfels of Springtown and Wayne Steinfels of Bedford. His older sister Lilleas Slankard passed away a few years ago.
