Marvin “Pete” Earl Potter, 78, a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather, passed away, Monday, July 8, 2024 on the property he was raised on, surrounded by those that love him. He was born November 26, 1945 in Decatur. His parents, James L. Potter and Lucille (Dunn) Potter preceded him in death along with two children, Bryan Clay Houtchens and Dawn Marie Houtchens; and brothers, Ronnie, James D. and Richard Lee Potter. Pete grew up in Decatur in the country. When he was a boy, he could be found working on the family farm. In 1980 he married the first love of his life, Carol “Horsey”. He served in the US Navy, serving during Vietnam doing seven tours and enjoyed meeting with the disabled veterans. Pete was in the roofing business and was a jack of all trades. There was nothing that he couldn’t fix or build. In his spare time Pete enjoyed bird and deer hunting. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Carol (Perkins) Potter; son, Monty Houtchens; daughters, Sherri Henderson, Cheryl Bond and husband, Tom and Dana Houtchens; sister, Patsy Joy Hall; brother, Randall Glenn Potter; grandchildren, Shelbie, Jennifer, Ryan, Chloe, JR, Bella and Jude; great grandchildren, Adelynn, Willow, Soleil and Salem; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
