Audie Lee Phillips, 91, was born to Clarence and Minnie (Tucker) Phillips in Keeter, outside of Boyd, on July, 22 1932. Audie grew up in Boyd and attended the respective elementary, school, and high schools. During his adult life, Audie worked for Melody Mobile Homes and then Charlie Jones Construction Co. He began work at Continental National Bank (Boyd, TX) in the mid 60’s as the head cashier. He then worked at Boyd Industries for 38 years and retired in 2017.
All of his passion was driven by his love for the LORD. He taught a young boy’s Sunday school class, worked with children’s music programs, served in the church playing the piano, organ and accordion, served as treasurer, and sang in the choir. He began working to care for the Boyd Cemetery in 1979. He served as President and Treasurer for the cemetery. It was his great joy to serve the community by caring for grieving families in such a practical and kind way. His daily activities would often include making sure the cemetery was cleaned and prepped for a service, picking up stray flowers or trash, meeting with families to help them make arrangements for their loved ones, or anything that needed to be done.
Later in life, Audie married, and his passion grew to include his wife Chessene, their love for travel, square dancing, ballroom dancing and gardening.
Audie’s parents preceded him in death along with his brothers, Artis, Leon, Chris, Charles, Vernon, and sister Mary Ruth. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Chessene Phillips, nieces, Judy Rye and Karen Winkler (Dow) and great nieces and nephew, Rebecca and husband Clint, Morghanne and husband, Mason, Cody and Meaghann; children, Kent Parish (Lynne), Dorenda Kesler (Jim), and Brent Parish (Carol); eleven grandchildren, twenty- one great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren and one expected in October.
