Norman Howard Gilliland, 81, of Springtown, Texas, passed away, Thursday, January 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Norman was born on April 28, 1944, in Springtown, where he lived his entire life and built deep roots in the community he loved. He shared a beautiful love story with his wife, Juanita Sneed Gilliland, his high school sweetheart and devoted partner of 63 years. Their marriage was a true example of lifelong love, commitment, and friendship. He is survived by his loving wife, Juanita; his son, Howard “Tony” Gilliland and wife Linda; his daughter, Sheri Gilliland Callaway and husband Doug; nine grandchildren who lovingly called him “Granddaddy”; and fourteen great-grandchildren who knew him as both “Granddaddy” and “Memo.” He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Leslie D’Ann Gilliland; his parents, Howard and Mildred (Passmore) Gilliland; and his sister, Margaret Lehman. Norman spent his working years serving others and building lasting friendships. He worked at Texaco in Springtown for Vernon McKeon, where he fixed flats and pumped gas. He later worked as a guard at General Dynamics before settling into a long career at Miller Brewing Company, where he remained until retirement and formed many lifelong friendships. In addition to his professional life, Norman was deeply committed to serving his community. He proudly served as a councilman for the City of Springtown and also gave his time as a reserve police officer for the City of Springtown, roles that reflected his dedication to helping others and making his hometown a better place. Above all else, Norman’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He was a loving husband, father, brother, son, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He and his family enjoyed square dancing with the Springtown Revolvers, where they made many cherished memories and lifelong friends. He also loved playing dominoes with his brothers-in-law and never missed a chance to support his grandchildren. Norman was a familiar and beloved face at ball fields and gyms, cheering loudly for his grandsons and the entire team. To many of the kids and families, he was simply known as “Granddaddy,” a name that reflected the warmth and kindness he showed to everyone.
