A celebration of Nick’s life will be held on August 8, 2026, in the evening at the home of his son, Nic Crites.
Details regarding the time and address will be shared by the family.
Nicholas "Nick" Stuart Crites, a resident of Springtown, Texas, passed away, Friday, June 19, 2026, at the age of 71. Nick was born on January 19, 1955, in Hillsdale, Michigan, to the late Donald Forest Crites and Josephine Alspach (Totten) Crites. He grew up in Camden, Michigan, where he graduated from Camden-Frontier High School. On December 21, 1975, Nick married the love of his life, Sherrie Ann Hobart. Together, they built a beautiful life grounded in love, partnership, and shared adventures, recently celebrating their milestone 50th wedding anniversary. Following high school, Nick followed an adventurous path, working for a time as a racehorse jockey. He later attended trade school for small engine mechanics, ultimately finding his long-term career as a talented journeyman electrician, from which he retired as a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).Nick was a man of diverse passions and lifelong curiosity. In his retirement, he channeled his energy into the outdoors and nature, becoming a dedicated beekeeper. Together with his wife, he also took up the hobby of raising and showing goats, a passion they loved sharing. When he wasn't tending to his animals or hives, he was happiest with a fishing pole in his hand, enjoying the quiet patience of the water—almost always with his beloved Sherrie by his side. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherrie Ann Crites; his children, Krystal Rose (Crites) Holbrook of Texas, Buffy Jo Burgess and her husband, Brian of Reno, Texas, and Nicholas (Nic) Crites II and his wife, Jennifer Naron-Crites of Weatherford, Texas; as well as Brandon David Crites and his wife, Shannon of Wisconsin, and Brittany Marie Crites of Michigan, whom Nick and Sherrie proudly raised as their very own. Nick also leaves behind his sister, JoDonna (Crites-Stout) Szalay and her husband, Julius of Punta Gorda, Florida; a legacy of 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; two nieces; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws who will miss him dearly. Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Josephine, and his sister, Tracelene (Barrett) Prima.
