Neoma Laverne (Murphree) Zachary, affectionately known as Laverne, was born on August 14, 1943, in Dallas, Texas, to Mamie Agnes (Glass) and Jessie Bynum Murphree. She graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1962 and, at the age of 20, married the love of her life, Melvin Edward Zachary, on June 20, 1964, in Collin County, Texas. Laverne and Melvin devoted their lives to raising their two children, Kreg Edward Zachary and Keri Shannon (Zachary) Greer, in Duncanville, Texas.

Laverne worked as a teacher's aide at Hastings Elementary in Duncanville Independent School District from 1976 to 1995. In 1993, Laverne and Melvin relocated to Canton, Texas, where they cherished their time together in the serene countryside. They were lovingly referred to as "grandma and grandpa farm" by their grandchildren, as they created lasting memories through their family gatherings.

Laverne had a passion for crocheting blankets for her loved ones and devoted her time to canning, gardening, and cultivating beautiful flowers. Her deep faith guided her life as an active member of the Baptist church in Canton, alongside Melvin. They also enjoyed the companionship of their pets and shared many delightful early morning breakfast outings.

Laverne is preceded in death by her son, Kreg Edward Zachary; her brother, Jerry Murphree; her sister, Theopal Murphree Ellsworth; her brother, Jesse Bynum "JB" Murphree; and her parents.

She is survived by her brother, Paul Murphree; her sisters, Geraldine Thompson and Jawandee McCasland; her daughter, Keri Shannon Greer, and son-in-law, Richard Greer; as well as her cherished grandchildren: Jordyn Pitts, married to Joey Pitts, and their child, Myles Pitts; Lindsey Green, married to Corbin Green; Garran Greer; Presley Greer; and Haley Price, married to Dylan Price, along with their two children, Emory Greer and Asher Price.

Laverne will be remembered for her nurturing spirit, her dedication to her family, and her unwavering faith. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. No Public services will be held.
