Mabel (Mamaw) Bernice Bain went to her heavenly home, Friday, April 18, 2025 at home. She was born March 17, 1922, in Canton, Ill., to Lillie and Earl White. Mabel was one of 10 children. She always talked about how poor their family was growing up, but said they never really knew they were poor, because everybody else was poor back in the day. Mabel loved to tell jokes, fish, laugh, collect turtles of all sorts, make popcorn for friends and family, and write poems.
Mabel met George W. Bain and they married and moved to Texas, where George attended the Seminary and became a Baptist minister. Mabel gave birth to twins, Patricia and Latricia, but Latricia was stillborn.
Mabel is reunited in death with her husband, George W. Bain, her parents, and 8 siblings. She is survived by her younger sister, Melba White; daughter, Patricia Erwin; grandson, Todd Spitz and wife Gayla; granddaughter, Tammi and husband Larry White; great grandchildren, Cody Benware and fiancé’ Jennifer, Jennifer Miller and husband Garrett, Geddy Hamerman and husband A.J; and great-great grandchildren, Sam, Lyla, Maddock and Haze.
