It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt reflection that we announce the passing of Kenneth Hektner, a cherished soul whose kindness and love touched the lives of all who knew him. Born on December 9, 1951, in the quiet town of Breckenridge, Minnesota,  He grew up in Mooreton, ND. Kenneth’s life journey carried him through rich experiences and enduring relationships until his peaceful departure on April 10, 2026, in Decatur, Texas.

Kenneth was a devoted U.S. Army veteran whose service reflected his steadfast commitment to his country. Following his military career, he dedicated 27 years of his working life to American Airlines, where his diligence and dedication earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike. His career was marked not only by professional achievement but by a spirit of camaraderie and warmth.

Family meant everything to Kenneth. He was a kind and loving father, brother, grandfather, and friend—a foundation of strength and tenderness for those fortunate enough to be part of his life. Sharing holidays with family here in Texas was among his most treasured memories, moments filled with laughter, love, and connection that will live on in the hearts of all who gathered with him.

Kenneth is lovingly remembered by his son, Brian Melashenko; his brothers, Paul Hektner and his wife Beverly, Gary Hektner and his wife Judy; his sisters, Lori Miranowski and her husband Jerry, and Lois Chase and her husband Keith. His grandchildren, Conner and Kaitlyn, along with extended family and friends, join in mourning the loss of a remarkable man whose gentle nature and generous spirit were an abiding source of comfort and joy.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Donald Stanley and Annie Ione (Syverson) Hektner, and his brother, Dennis Hektner, whose memories he carried with profound love throughout his life.

Kenneth’s passions were as varied as they were meaningful. He found delight in watching westerns, a pastime that echoed his love for adventure and storytelling. Travel also held a special place in his heart, inspiring a lifelong curiosity and appreciation for the broader world beyond his Texan home.

In remembering Kenneth Hektner, we celebrate a life well-lived—a man whose kindness, love, and unwavering loyalty continue to resonate. His spirit remains a guiding light to his family and friends, reminding us all of the enduring power of love and the timeless bonds of family.
