James “Jim” Walling, 84, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, in Briar, Texas.

Born on December 1, 1940, in Dallas, Texas, Jim was the son of the late JV and Dorothy Walling.

He lived much of his childhood in the Panama Canal Zone. He graduated from Azle High School in 1958 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from North Texas State University in 1963. He later earned an Associate's degree in Engineering from Tarrant County College.

A dedicated patriot, Jim proudly served his country as a Major in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He received a Bronze Star and Meritorious Award medals. Following his military service, he had a distinguished career as a Traffic Engineer with the Texas Department of Transportation, ensuring the safety and efficiency of Texas roadways.

Jim was a man who embraced life with an inquisitive spirit. He loved the Lord, and he enjoyed studying the Bible to deepen his understanding and faith. He liked to learn new things, whether mastering how to effectively train a dog or taking on the challenge of building his own canoe. He found great peace and adventure in the outdoors, frequently spending time riding motorcycles, hiking, sailing, and serving as a volunteer canoe guide with the Fort Worth Nature Center. He found great comfort in his dogs and embraced the challenge of a game of dominoes with his friends at the Boyd Senior Center. He was analytical, strong, and forgiving, and he believed firmly in treating all people with respect.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, JV and Dorothy Walling, and his daughter, Kathy Walling, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Lana Walling; his children, Kelly (Jeff) Booth, Tracey Buckingham, Deborah (Todd) Manson and Ethan Edwards; and his cherished grandchildren, Bailey Booth, Emily (Nick) Chapman, Anna and Maddie Buckingham, Ethan and Avie Manson. Uncle Jesse (Marie) Waggoner; former spouse, Carol Yockers; and extended family and friends.

The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice for their care, especially John, Tacara, and Gina.
