**Obituary for James William Hurst Jr.**

James William Hurst Jr. was called home to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 18, 2025, while in the comfort of his beloved home in Fort Worth. Born on March 10, 1944, in San Antonio to the late James William Hurst Sr. and Florene Anita (Hall). James is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Suzann Saxon; brother David Hurst;  son-in-law Billy Shipp;  and grandson Jadin Crowley. His legacy of love and faith continues to shine brightly through his family.

Raised in the vibrant Houston area, James exhibited a profound sense of duty from a young age. After completing high school, he honorably served in the Navy for six years, where he not only defended his country but also met the love of his life, Mildred (Keely) Hurst. Together, they shared 61 beautiful years, nurturing a family rooted in love and faith.

James dedicated much of his life to public service, proudly serving as a police officer in Carrollton before answering his true calling to the ministry in 1970. He shepherded his congregation at the Abundant Life Worship Center, touching countless lives through his unwavering faith and compassion until his retirement in 2001.

Described as a man of God, James was a devoted husband and father who embodied kindness and generosity. He had a remarkable ability to connect with everyone he met, often leaving a lasting impression with his warm smile and genuine spirit.

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Mildred (Keely) Hurst; children Shelley Brown and her husband John, James Hurst III, Rodney Hurst and his wife Gena, and Mellissa Maness and her husband Malcolm; brother Gary Hurst; as well as 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. James also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members, all of whom carry his memory in their hearts.

James William Hurst Jr. led a life rich in love, service, and faith, and though he is no longer with us, his spirit will forever remain in the lives he touched. We celebrate his legacy and find comfort in the memories we hold dear.
