Mrs. James Mildred “Millie” Dougherty, age 84, passed away peacefully at her home in Azle, Thursday, March 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of her devoted husband, Donn L. Dougherty, to whom she was united in marriage for 66 cherished years, and their family. Born on August 1, 1941, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Millie was the beloved daughter of James Albert Barber and Rosa Jane (Riles) Barber. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Lawrence Barber.
Millie and Donn built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and deep devotion to one another and their family. Throughout her life, Millie embraced many passions—from a fulfilling career in real estate to serving the community through her work with the U.S. General Services Administration. Her vibrant spirit found joy in playing golf and board games, capturing moments through photography, quilting, riding dirt bikes, and even playing the guitar.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband Donn; their children, Donna Lawson and her husband Wayne, Tony Dougherty and his wife Nancy, Tim Dougherty and Donn Dougherty; her brother Edward Barber and his wife Donna; grandchildren Drew, Natalie, Abbie, Christopher, Patrick, Heather, and Ashley; and great-grandchildren Conner, Cayden, Braden, Nathan, Nolan, Jaxon, Ryan, Harrison, Landry, Destiny, Arralyn, Emily, Dax, Ace, and Scarlett. Millie also touched the lives of numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Her legacy of love, warmth, and spirited enthusiasm for life will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
