James Rainey Cothrum

James Rainey Cothrum, 64, of Springtown, Texas, was found in his home September 19, 2025, where he was pronounced deceased on the scene, only a few short weeks shy of his 65th birthday. James was born on October 12, 1961, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Bobby and Therese Cothrum, the first of their four boys.

Growing up, James shone bright in his passion for drawing and woodworking crafts. He also grew in his love of cooking, which served him well in his adult life as the chef at Springtown's local Howell's Cafe for over 30 years, where he retired just a few short years prior to his passing. His best friend in this life was his mom until her death in 2020. He also loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

James was preceded in death by his father and mother, Bobby and Therese Cothrum; as well as his brother, John Cothrum; and cousin, Absalom Grube.

He is survived by his brother and his wife, Jeff and Jessica Cothrum, of Springtown, Texas; brother Jarrod Cothrum; daughter Therese Atkins of Fort Worth, Texas; son Thomas Cothrum of Fort Worth, Texas; aunt Christianna Denman and her daughter and son-in-law Anna and Thomas Honsberger of Springtown, Texas; niece and husband Autumne and Brent Barnard; nephew Hunter Cothrum; grandchildren Kaiya Atkins, Judah Buford, Sophia Cothrum, and Lycan Nettles; and one precious great-granddaughter Athena Solis; along with many other friends and loved ones.

A memorial celebration of James' life is currently in the works and will be announced soon via social media.
