James Edgar Clay, a beloved husband, father, and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026, in Decatur, Texas. Born on March 4, 1950, in Bastrop, Texas, James — known to many simply as Jimmy — led a life marked by love, dedication, and an unforgettable spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew him.

From an early age, James displayed a vibrant personality that was both fun-loving and caring. He graduated from Tremble Technical High School in 1968, setting the foundation for a life defined by hard work and loyalty. For 15 years, he served as a devoted Security Officer at Wise Regional Hospital, where his presence was a constant source of reassurance and safety for patients, staff, and visitors alike. His commitment to protecting those around him was matched only by the warmth and kindness he extended to everyone he encountered.

James was a jokester at heart — a king of laughter who brightened rooms with his quick wit and infectious humor. Yet beneath this playful exterior was a man of profound care, the loving husband to Donna Clay and a steadfast father to their son, James Clay. His family was the center of his world, and his devotion to them was unwavering. He also held a special place in his heart for his numerous nieces and nephews, who fondly remember the gentle guidance and joyous spirit he shared freely. James was a Christian man who lived his life as a reflection of that faith.

A passionate sports fan, James found joy in following his favorite teams: the Texas Rangers, Houston Oilers, and Dallas Cowboys. Whether watching a game with friends or sharing stories of memorable plays, his enthusiasm was always heartfelt and contagious.

Though his parents, Edgar Valentine Clay and Stella (Henderson) Clay, along with his sisters Doris Merrell, Dexie Steele, and Patsy Clay, have passed on, James’s legacy lives vibrantly through the lives of those who remain. His love, laughter, and kindness have left an indelible mark, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

James Edgar Clay’s journey on this earth concluded, but the echoes of his joy and love continue to inspire and uplift. He was a man who gave freely of himself, whose heart was as wide as the Texas sky under which he was born. As we remember Jim, we hold close the happiness he brought into our lives and honor a life beautifully lived.
