Eric Stacy Hinz, 71 of Runaway Bay, Texas passed away, Sunday, January 14, 2024 in Bridgeport, Texas. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date to be determined. He was born May 22, 1952 in La Jolla, California. Eric spent his youth actively enjoying road racing in Riverside, sailing and participating in the Boy Scouts where he earned his Eagle Scout medal. He also sailed in several Transpacific Yacht Races (Transpac) from L.A. to Hawaii and Tahiti. Eric received his Bachelors degree in Political Science and Economics from University of California, Riverside. He was a superb swimmer playing water polo for UCR.
His passion with aviation led Eric into gliders and sailplanes where he became an accomplished instructor pilot. He joined the Navy in 1978 and flew H-2 Seasprite helicopters. He retired from the Naval Reserve as a Commander. After the Navy he flew for 23 years as a Captain for Comair Airlines.
After retiring in 2012, Eric and his wife purchased a 40 foot motorhome and traveled the great southwest full-time for 8 years.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Deborah Mae Hinz; daughter, Hali Morrill Hinz Mischo; and grandson, William Hinz Mischo.
