Hugh Carrol Herring, 84, our beloved husband, father, brother grandfather and great grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 29, 2015. Carrol's greatest gift was his ability to affect other people's lives though his ministry, his teaching and his devotion to the Lord and to his family.
Carrol was born April 4, 1930 in Terry County and grew up on the farm. He graduated from Union High School and went on to obtain his BA from Carson Newman College and his MA from North Texas State University. Carrol became an ordained Baptist Minister at age of 17 and pastored churches in Texas and Tennessee and was currently pastor at Fellowship Baptist Church in Weatherford. He taught high school English, coached basketball, served as guidance counselor and director of Special Ed. He retired from Azle ISD after a lifetime career in education.
Carrol was preceded in death by his father, John Carrol; mother, Dora; brothers, Johnny and Bill.
Survivors: He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Sue; son David Herring and wife, Karan of Azle; daughter Melanie Gonzales and husband, Albert of Watauga; son Bob Herring and wife, Susan of Azle; brother, Glenn "Bud" Herring of Lake Palestine; sisters, Joyce Paden of Balch Springs and Peggy Crum of Lubbock; grandchildren, EJ, Rachelle, Jake, Cody, Jessica and Phillip; great grandchildren, Travis, Kenidy, Griffin, Lily, Owen, Cooper and Austin; and host of nieces, nephews and friends whom he dearly loved. “How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the Gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
