Helen Geerlings, of Boyd, passed away, Friday, May 12, 2017, after a 3-year battle with a rare blood disease.
Helen was born on March 4, 1944 in Macon County, MO to Robert and Mildred Wilson. She grew up on the family farm, attending school through the 8th grade in a one-room school house and had the same teacher all 8 years. She graduated from Macon High School in 1961.
On October 30, 1965, she married Lambert Geerlings. Lambert joined the U.S. Air Force and they were stationed in several places throughout his time in the service. After his service was complete, they lived in Holt, MO; Owasso, OK; Covington, GA; and eventually settled in Wise County, just north of Springtown.
She was an active member of the churches where they lived, singing in the church choir and working in the church nursery. At First Baptist in Springtown, she was known as the Cookie Queen. She also enjoyed sewing for her children when they were young, and especially for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Lambert of the home;two children, Sarah Joyce and her husband, Marty, of Owasso, OK and their children Andrew, Brian & Caleb; and her son Matthew Geerlings and his wife, Cara, of Sergeant Bluff, IA and their children, Anna and Lauren. One brother, Richard Wilson of Weslaco, and one sister-in-law, Rena Wilson of Macon, MO, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert Wilson, and nephew, Lewis Wilson.
