Mary Ellen Roberson Freeman, passed away, Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Decatur care center at the age of 88 years old. Graveside: Private, under the direction of Alexander’s Midway Funeral Home in Springtown. She was born February 15, 1932 in Parker County to Alvin Roberson and Dortha Hotchkiss Roberson. She grew up in Springtown and graduated from Springtown High School as Valedictorian in 1949.
Mary married Billy Freeman in June of 1949 and they had been married 66 years at the time of Billy’s death in 2015. She was a homemaker when her children were small and then worked for several years at Lipstreu Elementary School in Springtown. After those years, she worked in the library at Weatherford College for many years. Mary loved books and reading and was instrumental in the founding of the Springtown Public Library. She was awarded for these efforts by being named “The Outstanding Citizen of the Year” by the Springtown Chamber of Commerce in 1988. Besides her family, friends and books, Mary enjoyed quilting and attending quilt shows, especially those held Houston. She and Billy also traveled extensively together to Mexico, Canada and Europe. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Billy and her son David. Mary is survived by her daughter, Sarai (Gary) Souder of Paradise; granddaughters, Ami (Bart) Wisdom of Springtown, Amanda (Tom) LePage, grandson, Matthew Souder all of Fort Worth; great grandchildren, Alex Snell of Springtown and Ben and Lorelei LePage of Fort Worth.
