PARADISE – Mary Josephine DiDonato Clement, 68, a cosmetologist and domestic engineer, died peacefully Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Wise Regional Hospital in Decatur, Texas.
Mary was born February 20, 1955, in Wilmington, Delaware, to Rocco and Antionette Giangrande DiDonato. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Antoinette and Rocco; her husband, Frank Clement; and her sister, Anna Gentry.
Mary was a fierce woman that touched many people and had a personality larger than life! As you may know Mary was 4’11 But was quick to remind you that “dynamite comes in small packages!”She and her sister Anna owned and operated Five Points hair salon in their early 20s in Wilmington, Delaware on Maryland Ave. It was no ordinary hair salon as many Saturdays family and friends would gather for fun and laughter until after hours and then go out to eat. Later in her life, Mary traveled often with her husband Frank; from Arizona to Louisiana, Pennsylvania, the Carolinas, Florida, and of course all over Texas. Mary and Frank settled in Texas where they grew a beautiful family and made wonderful friends. Mary always ensured that her guests that came to visit never left hungry and always had a good time. She would listen and help family or friends solve any problem the world had thrown at them. There was never a dull moment with Mary; from trying a new recipe to unexpectedly rearranging the furniture at her home or a hotel she was staying in or even when she was visiting you! She did everything her way. She was a giver and taught us what true love is; near or far you knew she loved you.
Mary is survived by two children, Jessica J. Elsik and her husband MSgt Michael Elsik, and John F. Clement; her four grandchildren: Grace, Abagail, Jordan and Joshua; two brothers, Vincent DiDonato and his five children, and Rocco DiDonato and his wife, Betty and his three children; her cousin, turned sister, MaryAnna Albano and her child, Sammy Sigmund; her nephew, Sam Gentry and his wife Whitney and their children, Sawyer and Chandler; her Niece, Nina Price and her husband Will and their child, Annabelle. Left behind to cherish her memory are friends turned to family (ya-ya sisterhood members) Tina Distefano and Fran Panchak, and their families who loved her as their own and numerous friends and family around the country whom she loved dearly.
A celebration of life will occur later in Delaware.
