Beatriz Ortiz

Mrs. Beatriz C (Capriotti) Ortiz, 91, passed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, in Decatur. She was born September 9, 1934, to Eduardo Capriotti and Carmen (Lara) Capriotti in Colombia. Beatriz was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rev. Reyes Ortiz Parada; and son-in-law Eddie Monteagudo

Beatriz was a woman of great faith. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Paterson, NJ, for more than 40 years, where she played piano and organ. She graduated from American International College with a BA in education. Beatriz was a bilingual teacher for many years. She enjoyed teaching 2nd grade.

Beatriz was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family brought her joy. She also enjoyed music, travel, and cooking for her family.

Beatriz is survived by her daughters, Giselle Gutierrez and husband Gilbert, and Sandra Monteagudo; grandchildren, Stephen Gutierrez, Julie Gutierrez Spilman and husband Bobbie, Ingrid Battagliese and husband Mark, Monique Lagman and husband Ron; great-grandchildren, Alexis Battagliese and Rylee Lagman.
