Five children later, Rolf, Barbara, Laurie Lee and Lance, they divorced in 1967 and she moved the family to Ann Arbor Michigan. She went on to complete her Master's degree at Wayne State University, Detroit and she taught at the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University for several years. She met Charles Thomas Jr. in 1969. Her seventh and last child, Darcy was born in 1970.
